What is The Meals Ministry?
Through a team of volunteers, we provide meals to church or community members in times of need. It supports the Body by living out the word of God to glorify Him through serving one another. This is a great way to meet people in our church as well as minister to non-believers in an effort of service. Not all of the meals we provide are to believers, and not all attend MHC, but either way God uses us to fill the needs.
How Does It Work?
The meals ministry coordinator is made aware of a need, either through a direct request for help by email, phone, agape box, or through referral by someone within the church. Volunteers are then contacted and asked to provide a meal, either home cooked or purchased, and deliver it to the recipient.
Who Do We Serve?
We serve families and individuals in times of need. … after the birth of a baby… after surgery or hospitalization… during times of crisis
How Do We Serve?
We provide meals for two weeks, every other night. Sometimes we will provide more, sometimes less, it depends on the needs of the family. All coordination is done by email.
The meals ministry coordinator will send out an email with the details of the need, any food allergies and a schedule. Meals ministry members will “reply to all” with the date(s) they can bring a meal to the family. Sometimes a date chosen may already be taken, the meals ministry coordinator will identify and communicate any scheduling issues.
Before taking a meal, contact the family, via email or telephone, the night before or morning of (at the latest) and set up a drop off time, unless one has been arranged previously with the meals ministry coordinator. Meals can be delivered early in the day with a meal that is easy to heat up or around dinner time with a hot meal.
What Are The Meal Guidelines?
We provide a complete meal and deliver it to the recipient. The meal can be store bought, homemade, frozen or just about anything! The meal does not have to be fancy or gourmet. We attempt to accommodate allergies and food preferences. We strive to work out a schedule that benefits the recipient the most while working with the schedule of the volunteers.
How Can I Help?
The meals ministry is an excellent way to serve others, share Jesus, and make a difference in someone’s life. The purpose is to help someone in need by providing a ready made meal. In times of need, it is an incredible blessing to see a friendly face and receive a meal. Contact Christine Harrington if you would like to be part of the MHC meals ministry or if you know of or have a need for meals.
