FERNANDO ORTIZ
LEAD PASTOR
Fernando was born in Tacoma, Washington and grew up all over the world – from Korea to Germany. He eventually landed in Albuquerque, New Mexico. There he grew up going to church and received Jesus as his Savior in Jr. High. It wasn’t until his Junior year in High School, after a series of events, that he began to walk away from the Lord and subsequently live a complete and total lie. It was the typical scenario of going to church on Sundays and living for himself the rest of the week.

“I grew up in the church and was heavily involved in youth group and missions but the death of my youth leader was the beginning of a downward spiral in my relationship with Jesus. It wasn’t until I graduated from high school that I finally realized I couldn’t serve two masters, the world and Jesus Christ. It was in the Phoenix airport after struggling with my hypocrisy, that I surrendered my life whole heartedly to Christ and since then I haven’t been the same.”

Fernando attended Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrieta California, and then completed a Pastoral Internship at Calvary of Albuquerque, under Pastor Skip Heitzig. After that, he moved to Calvary Chapel Rio Rancho in New Mexico where he served as the youth pastor for three years. The Lord then called him to Denver to serve as an associate pastor at Calvary South Denver for six years.

Fernando is the Senior Pastor of Mile High Calvary in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. His heart is to communicate the gospel to all of Denver and see people come to know Jesus as their Lord, God, and Savior. Fernando lives with his wife Carol and their three children Ethan, Kendra, and Olivia.
